The first Aegean Yacht Rally organized between 01-22 July 2000. Inspired by the close relations that have been developed between the two neighbouring countries of the Aegean Sea after the earthquake of 17th August, the Aegean Yacht Rally aimed at contributing to this rapprochement. In order to symbolize the steps taken towards a future full of friendship and peace by this international yachting activity taking place in the first summer season of the new Millennium, the rally set sail with the slogan “ Sailing Towards the Future”. 110 yachts and 350 yachtsmen from 15 different countries participated in the rally, by cruising a total of 790 nautical miles in 22 days through visiting 19 ports.
